Tomás Ford woke up a few years ago at the Edinburgh Fringe with a whiskey hangover, hair product all down his face and a microphone in his hand
Flashbacks hit him hard; his brain threw on the brakes, trying to find its’ feet after a spectacularly lost decade spent running around the cesspit pubs and warehouse parties of Australia’s underground music scene.
Here he was, awake. All of that in the past tense. Prestigious award nominations and five star reviews in hand. An accidental “alternative cabaret” star. Whatever the fuck that meant.
LOVE CANCER is his demolition of his favourite song by his former comrades in cheap beer and loud music, Perth garage rockers The Painkillers (aka James Baker & Joe Bludge). It comes loaded with a kickass video clip.
On the flip, BASH MYSELF – JOHN CALLAGHAN VERSION sees ex-Warp Records artist and occasional Autechre collaborator John Callaghan mangle one of Ford’s most loved original tracks into a re-tuned, melancholy groove that builds to a booty-shaking peak.
Tomás Ford is currently on a neverending festival tour with his hit shows Electric Cabaret, The Final Chase and Crap Music Rave Party.
